Yeah, you read that right. We.
A little while back, I had an idea. The kind that feels both brilliant and slightly unhinged. I submitted a governance proposal on the zkVerify testnet with a title something like, "Can I buy a Lambo with Treasure Money?"
It was meant to be a conversation starter. A fun, low-stakes way to see how we all interact with the governance system. I figured it would get a good laugh, a wave of decisive "NO" votes, and we’d all move on, confident in our collective vigilance.
That’s not quite what happened. The proposal passed. By a solid 62%.
For a moment, I just stared at the results. A surprising, fascinating outcome. My first thought wasn't disappointment or victory, but curiosity. What did this mean?
Of course, there was never going to be an actual Lambo. The proposal was routed through a "Medium Spender” origin, a technical failsafe that prevents large sums from being dispensed. The code did its job, the testnet treasury was always safe, and my garage remains tragically empty.
Beyond the technical guardrails, the most fascinating part of this story is what it says about us. In this space, we spend countless hours perfecting code, including governance. All of that technology is crucial, but it's built to support something even more important: our community’s social layer. And that layer is built on trust.
This Lambo experiment was a beautiful, unexpected test of that trust. I see the vote as an incredibly valuable feedback. It showed us that people are engaged, that they have a sense of humor, and that we're all still navigating how to interact with these new systems. It shows that governance is so much more than a machine we operate: it’s a living conversation we’re all a part of.
That’s the whole point of doing this on testnet. It’s a playground where we can run these experiments and learn together without consequence. And the lessons we’re gathering here are vital. The trust we build, the habits we form, and the understanding we develop are the foundation for everything to come.
It’s a good thing we’re learning them now, because things are about to get very real, very soon. Stay tuned.
